IRIS (Integrated and Replicable Solutions for Co-Creation in Sustainable Cities) is a Light House Cities Project addressing the urgent need to deliver low carbon energy and mobility services in cities that are cheaper, better accessible, reliable, and that contribute to a more sustainable urban quality of life.

Structured around 3 Lighthouse cities – Utrecht, Göteborg and Nice – and 4 Follower cities, the Iris project is aiming respectively at demonstrating and replicating smart solutions integrating energy, mobility and ICT. Thanks to its consortium of 43 partners from 9 countries, new governance and business approaches will be tested, user-centric solutions and new technologies be developed, and all integrated among eco-districts thriving towards demand oriented city infrastructure and services.

EDF is leading the “smart energy” activity in the Lighthouse city of Nice. EDF will focus on the development of a local energy management systems to test how far eco-districts can be made more flexible and efficient. With the energy production and consumption forecasting and control capabilities of the EDF solution, buildings will become active and decide to release, store or consume locally produced renewable energy, proceeding to arbitration between building, district or city grid needs. EDF “Smart charging” solution will be implemented to manage e-vehicles charging: energy flows among the district will be coordinated and optimized all year round, making the district energy system flexible and responsive not only to local need, but also to national ones.
