Mytilineos’ Metallurgy Business Unit (formerly “Aluminium of Greece”) is the largest vertically integrated alumina and aluminium producer in the European Union.
In order to cover the massive heat needs of its alumina refinery, Mytilineos owns and operates a state-of-the-art, high-efficiency, gas-fired cogeneration plant (334 MW). The process of cogeneration involves the production of electricity while capturing and utilising heat that would otherwise have been lost as waste, thereby enabling industry to cover its demand in the most efficient and sustainable manner. The overall efficiency of Mytlineos’ cogeneration process exceeds 75%, leading to a significant reduction of CO2 emissions and primary energy savings of over 10%.
