Description
Mytilineos’ Metallurgy Business Unit (formerly “Aluminium of Greece”) constitutes the largest vertically integrated alumina and aluminium producer in the European Union.
The aluminium production process is already fully electrified, facilitating the transition towards carbon neutrality. The company is now striving to reduce the remaining emissions in the alumina/aluminium production process. To this end, Mytilineos recently installed a new calcination unit in its alumina plant, which converts hydrated alumina into calcined alumina. The calcination unit replaces the old rotary kilns and reduces energy consumption by 12% and direct CO2 emissions by 11%.
